01
What is it?
Logo animation for a fan comic, exploring a dark, sci-fi visual identity through motion.
Severance, a NIKKE fan project, is a fan endeavor by a growing team of creatives. The project is expanding into multiple media but lacks a cohesive and expressive identity, especially in motion. The objective was to explore how motion can extend a static logo into a more expressive identity, reinforcing tone and creating a memorable visual presence.
02
What goes on within this sequence?
The sequence is structured around a central visual disruption and a controlled final lockup.
- Designed the diagonal slash as a central visual motif to anchor both the static logo and motion sequence.
- Introduced a red eye and targeting UI elements to establish a secondary sci-fi visual language.
- Structured the animation with a buildup and release to create tension and emphasize the final logo reveal.
- Kept the final locked state clean and legible to ensure the mark remains usable beyond the animation.

03
Intention behind the animation
The animation was designed to feel tense and ominous, building toward a controlled final state. The final lockup reinforces the logo as a stable, recognizable mark. Subtle UI-inspired elements were introduced to extend the identity into a sci-fi context.
04
Breaking it down
The motion moves through three deliberate stages.
- Initiation — the logo appears intact before a diagonal disruption introduces instability.
- Distortion — text fragments, stretches, and reveals internal elements, building tension.
- Resolution — elements retract and lock into a clean final state with supporting UI and logo details.
05
Final thoughts on the outcome
The final logo establishes a bold and recognizable visual identity that translates effectively across both static and motion contexts. The animation introduces a sense of tension and progression, reinforcing the project’s tone while maintaining a clear and legible final mark.
This approach allows the identity to feel more expressive and adaptable as the project expands into additional media such as video, web, and promotional content.
