01
What is this app?
ClearLevel is a conceptual app that helps users understand their blood glucose trends using only glucometer readings. Designed for individuals with pre-diabetic or diabetic conditions, the app focuses on making health data more accessible and easier to interpret.
By simplifying complex information into clear patterns and insights, ClearLevel aims to support early detection and increase awareness of potential health changes.
02
What's up with diabetes?
Managing blood glucose often requires tools and systems that are either expensive or overly complex. While solutions like continuous glucose monitors provide detailed data, they can be inaccessible or overwhelming for many users.
As a result, individuals relying on basic glucometers are left with isolated readings that lack enough context, making it difficult to recognize patterns or understand changes over time.
03
An app to prevent or manage diabetes
- Focused on clarity and readability for users who may not be familiar with health data.
- Used a structured hierarchy to guide users through information in a natural reading flow.
- Applied contrast and emphasis to highlight key information at a glance.
- Balanced spacing to keep the interface open while maintaining efficient use of screen space.
- Kept the visual design minimal to reduce distractions and support understanding of critical data.
04
Design decisions to make the app helpful
- Reduced scope to only blood glucose level rather than A1C to reduce complexity of information and data
- Kept typography simple and high-contrast to ensure readability for older users
- Increased the size and prominence of the primary metric to make it immediately noticeable
- Used color-coded states to highlight critical values and communicate status at a glance
- Grouped related data into cards to improve scanning and reduce cognitive load
05
How it turned out overall
The app design successfully conveys key information clearly at a glance. The simplified layout and restrained visual system reduces mental load on the user, especially those with limited knowledge of the health metric. Given more time, I would explore iterations that would display filtered data simultaneously so that users can visually compare data trends.
